Processing and Refunding Surcharges in POS

Surcharging allows businesses to pass payment transaction fees to customers who pay with a credit or debit card. This feature helps offset processing costs while maintaining a smooth, customer-friendly checkout experience. This article explains how it applies during payments and refunds.


Things to know: 

  • This feature is controlled by the "Enable Credit Card Surcharging Feature" hidden setting, which can only be enabled by the MyTime team. To enable this setting, please contact support@mytime.com. Learn more about configuring the feature here
  • This feature is currently available to businesses that have a Stripe or Global payment accounts

Taking Payment With Card Surcharges


Once surcharges are configured, they are automatically applied when clients pay via credit and/or debit cards, depending on the configuration. 


  1. Navigate to POS > New Ticket
  2. If multiple locations exist, filter by the desired location
  3. Under the Services tab, add an appointment to the ticket, or add a class under the Classes tab, or add a product, gift card, membership, or package under the Products tab
  4. Click 'Take Payment' 
  5. Select the card payment method, such as:
    • Swipe
    • Tap
    • Keyed-in card entry
    • Card on file
  6. The surcharge value will be displayed. Click Charge (or the applicable confirmation button based on the selected method) to complete the transaction 
  7. Once the ticket is closed, surcharge details will also be visible on the closed ticket


Refunding Tickets With Surcharges


  1. Navigate to POS > Closed Tickets
  2. Locate and open the desired closed ticket
  3. Click "Refund" at the bottom of the screen 
  4. Select the items to refund by checking the corresponding boxes
  5. Choose a full or partial refund.
  6. Select a refund reason (if configured) and click 'Next'
  7. The surcharge amount will be displayed below the refund box, and the total including the surcharge, will be shown at the bottom
  8. Select the 'Refund' button to complete the process
  9. Click 'Done'          
  10. You will then be directed to the ticket view, where refund details will be displayed
