Once tipping is enabled in your account, you can add tips to POS tickets. This article will guide you through the process of adding tips on the new ticket page in POS.
Things to know:
- To enable the option to add a tip, the "Allow Clients to Leave Tips?" setting must be turned on in your account.
- The option to add a tip is only available when a service is added to the ticket
If the "Allow clients to leave tips?" setting is enabled and a tip is added to a ticket, disabling the setting later will make the tip amount visible on the ticket, but it cannot be edited.
If the "Allow clients to leave tips?" setting is disabled, any tips added to tickets prior to this change will not affect the ability to process refunds for those tips on the ticket.
- The Tips report will show appointment details, the tip amount given in both percentage and dollar amounts, and whether the tip was removed from the register.
- By default, tips are calculated and applied only to services.
If the “Tip calculation will be based on ticket subtotal (instead of service amount only)” company setting is enabled, tips are calculated on the total ticket subtotal, including all items added to the ticket but excluding taxes. For example, a client purchases the following:
Haircut (service): $50
Shampoo (product): $20
Total ticket: $70
Tip rate: 15%
With the setting enabled, the tip is calculated on the total ticket subtotal: 15% of $70 = $10.50
If the “Request Tips on $0 Services” hidden setting is enabled, tips can also be collected on services that are fully covered by memberships or packages, or on services with a $0 value.
To add tips on the new ticket page, simply follow these steps:
- Navigate to POS > New Ticket
- Enter the client's name.
- Select the location from the drop-down menu.
- Click on the Services tab.
- Add an appointment to the ticket.
- Once the appointment is added, the tip option will appear.
- Enter the tip amount in the designated field.

- Proceed to take payment and close the ticket.
