Tipping via a credit card terminal with a card on file offers a simple and efficient way to manage payments for both clients and staff. This article will walk you through the steps to take a tip using a saved credit card on the terminal.
Things to know:
- You can choose whether the default tip option appears as a preset percentage or a fixed dollar amount. Learn more here.
- To add a payment terminal to your account, click here to learn more.
- The ability to collect tips on tickets valued at $0 is controlled by the "Request Tips for $0 Services" hidden setting. This setting can only be enabled by the MyTime team. To request activation, please contact our Support Team at support@mytime.com.
- When a tip is left via a credit card terminal, it is automatically split among the staff members who performed the services. This applies to multi-staff appointments (a single appointment with multiple services performed by different staff members), as well as to multiple appointments grouped on a single POS ticket.
- The formula used for automatic tip splitting is (Staff Member’s Service Revenue ÷ Total Appointment Revenue) × Tip Amount. For example, if Laura provided services totaling $60 and James provided services totaling $40, the total appointment revenue would be $100. If the client leaves a $20 tip, the system will calculate each staff member’s share based on their contribution to the total revenue.
- When the "Automatically request a split tip" setting is enabled, the "Split Tip" modal will automatically appear on the Take Payment screen if a tip is added via a credit card terminal. This allows you to review and adjust the tip distribution before finalizing the payment.
- If the ticket contains only a single appointment, the modal will display the staff member’s name along with the full tip amount.
- If the ticket includes a multi-staff appointment or multiple appointments, the modal will list the names of all staff members who performed services, but no tip percentages will be pre-filled.
- If no changes are made in the modal, the system will automatically split the tip based on each staff member’s share of the total service revenue.
