Deleting Pet Breeds

Pet businesses can alter their list of pet breeds by deleting undesirable breeds. In this article, we will discuss how to delete pet breeds and list a few cases of what to expect after this has been done. For franchise businesses that share clients, the pet breed can only be deleted at the parent level.


Things to Know:
  • The "Manage Client Setup" access control setting governs the ability to delete custom fields
  • For franchise businesses that share clients, modifications to pet breeds can only be made at the parent level.
  • Once a pet breed is deleted, it will be removed from the pet breed list and will no longer be available when adding or updating pet profiles.
  • Any records or data previously associated with the deleted breed will remain unchanged.

Deleting Pet Breeds


To delete a pet breed:


  1. Navigate to the Clients tab > Click "Customize Client Field" mceclip0.png
  2. Scroll to the "Custom Pet Field" and expand the pet breed field 
  3. Search for the desired pet breed from the list 
  4. Once located, click the "X" beside the breed to delete it mceclip2.png
  5. Confirm the deletion 
  6. Save

What to Expect After Deleting a Pet Breed

A pet breed linked to existing appointments is deleted

When a pet breed linked to existing appointments is deleted, the appointments remain intact. The breed name continues to display as it was at the time of booking.

Reports associated with these appointments will still show the deleted breed name.

Scheduling an appointment for a pet with a deleted breed
If an appointment is booked for a pet whose breed was deleted, the breed will still appear beside the pet's name during the scheduling process, both in-store and online, as long as the breed was associated with the pet before it was deleted.

A client logs in to view their pet profile, and the breed has been deleted


When a client logs in to view their pet's profile, the breed will still display. However, when editing the profile, the "Pet Breed" field will appear blank or without the deleted breed. The deleted breed will no longer be available in the dropdown menu.
