The SMS Usage report displays the count and source of text message segments sent during the specified date range. An SMS segment is the unit carriers use to measure, deliver, and bill text messages. Each segment can hold a limited number of characters, which depends on the type of encoding used. Messages that exceed the character limit are split into multiple segments.
Things to know:
- The ability to access this report is governed by the "Accessing Reports" access control settings
- SMS Segments
- Segments per message are based on length and encoding
- Carriers treat each segment as a separate message for delivery and billing, so every segment is counted and charged individually.
- Each recipient receives their own copy, so the number of segments per message is multiplied by the number of recipients to calculate billing.
- Example: A 2-segment message sent to 50 recipients counts as 100 billable segments

- For franchise businesses, this report is only available on child accounts and cannot be accessed from the parent account.
- The data in the report is displayed based on the location selected in the location filter.
- You can access the report from the My Account page under the My Plan tab or directly from the Reports tab.
To access the report from the Reports tab:
Navigate to Dashboard
Select the Reports tab
Under the Company section, select the SMS Usage report
To access the report from the My Account tab:
- Navigate to My Account
- Select My Plan
Once the report is opened, in the upper left, you may filter by the date the SMS was sent, and on the right, you can export the report as a CSV, PDF, or print version.
Report Filters
Filter | Description |
Location | This filter allows you to easily segment and review SMS activity by location.

Date | The date range for which SMS messages were sent |
Report Columns
Column | Description |
Date | The date the SMS was sent |
Transactional SMS Segments | The number of transactional SMS segments sent during the date range. |
Transactional SMS Details | The title of the transactional SMS template that was sent (e.g., Appointment Confirmation) |
Marketing SMS Segments | The number of marketing SMS segments sent during the date range. |
Marketing Details | The title of the marketing SMS template that was sent (e.g., Rebooking Reminder, Invite clients to Book Online) |
Communicator SMS Segments | The number of Communicator SMS segments sent during the date range. |
Tip SMS Segments | The number of requests for text-to-tip SMS segments sent during the date range. |
Total SMS Segments | The total number of SMS segments sent during the date range, including marketing, text-to-tip, communicator, and transactional messages. |
