Checkout Prompts for Upselling in POS

Modified on Mon, 17 Aug at 12:35 PM

This article provides a step-by-step walkthrough on enabling and building conditional rules for your POS to maximize ticket value and streamline upselling with automated checkout prompts.

Things to know:

  • The ability to configure your account to allow checkout prompts is controlled by the "Access Account Settings" access permission.
  • If a service or product on a ticket triggers multiple upselling rules, all suggested items will automatically consolidate. This allows staff to present and upsell multiple recommendations at once during checkout. For example, if you have multiple rules configured for a Hair Cut service, adding that service to a ticket and clicking 'Take Payment' will display a unified "Suggest Adding to This Ticket?" modal listing every item triggered by that service.
  • You can hover over the tooltip icon next to "Based on this ticket, we recommend adding:" to view the specific rule(s) triggered for that ticket.

Configuring Prompt Rules

Follow these steps to build conditional upselling rules:

  1. Navigate to Business Setup > Settings
  2. Scroll to the POS settings section and locate the 'Prompt to add items at POS' settings
  3. Toggle the setting to 'Yes'
  4. The configuration hyperlink called "Manage prompt rules" will be visible
  5. Click 'Manage prompt rules' to open the 'Checkout Prompts' modal window
  6. Click '+ Add Rules' and configure your parameters:
    • IF (Set Your Triggers): Define exactly when this prompt should appear by selecting parameters from the dropdown menus:
      • The time of day after: Select the desired time between 12:00 am and 11:45 pm (15-minute intervals)
      • The day of the week: Select the specific day(s) the rules apply
      • Ticket total is over: Set a minimum dollar threshold that the ticket must exceed
    • QUALIFYING ITEMS
      • Include/Exclude: Choose whether the rule applies only to selected items or ignores them entirely.
      • Item Type: Target specific services, products, classes, memberships, packages, or gift cards. You can add multiple qualifying groups.
    • THEN SUGGEST (Select Your Recommendations): Add the specific item(s) or custom fee to recommend. You can configure multiple suggested items for a single prompt.
  7. All rules can be added, edited, or deleted directly from this modal. Use the Enabled/Disabled toggle in the top-right corner of any rule to pause it without deleting
  8. Scroll to the bottom of the settings page and save the changes

The staff members can hover over the tooltip icon next to the "Based on this ticket, we recommend adding:" note to see exactly which conditional rule triggered the recommendation
  4. Accept or Decline:
    1. To accept: Select the checkbox next to the item(s) and click Add to Ticket. The cart price will update automatically.
    2. To decline: Click Dismiss to close the prompt and take you to the Take Payment screen
