When customers pay via credit card, you can let them select a tip from the terminal (Web) or the tablet (iOS/Android). In this article, we will walk through the steps to take to allow your clients to tip using the terminal.
Things to know:
- You can specify the default tip option to be shown as preset % or $. Learn more here.
- The ability to collect tips on tickets valuing $0 is controlled by a hidden setting that only the MyTime team can enable. To enable the hidden setting, please contact our Support Team at support@mytime.com.
Requesting Tips on a Customer-Facing Card Terminal
- Navigate to the Schedule > Open the desired appointment
- Click "Create Ticket"
- You will be directed to the POS > New Ticket page
- Expand the dropdown menu in the upper right-hand corner of the page > Select the desired terminal
- Select the 'Take Payment' button
- You can select the card on file, key-in card, or swipe card button
- A request will be sent to the card terminal while in POS:
- If 'Key In Card' is selected, a pop-up will appear prompting you to enter the card details
- After entering the card details and clicking 'Add,' another pop-up will appear, prompting you to click the 'Request Tip via Pin-Pad' button
- If 'Swipe Card' is selected, the 'Swipe, Dip, or Tap Card' pop-up will appear
- If 'Key In Card' is selected, a pop-up will appear prompting you to enter the card details
- The client can either select a % or $ amount (depending on your business settings)
- If you choose % tipping, the client will choose between three preset % or the other options using 1-9 keys then press enter (green button)
- If you choose $ tipping - the client will choose between three preset $ or the other options using 1-9 keys then press enter (green button)
- The tip amount will be added to the total
- You can then request the client to insert, swipe, or tap their card
- Once approved, the terminal will show a successful message
- Back in POS, you will be presented with the 'Split Tip' pop-up > Save
- Close the ticket
Requesting Tips on a Customer-Facing Card Terminal on a $0 Service
For businesses that have memberships or packages that cover services, you can request a tip on a service that is $0 (covered by membership or package).
- Navigate to the Schedule > Open the desired appointment (in membership or package)
- Click "Create Ticket"
- You will be directed to the POS > New Ticket page
- Expand the dropdown menu in the upper right-hand corner of the page > Select the desired terminal
- Next, locate the "Closed Ticket" button with a downward-facing arrow. Click the downward-facing arrow and select Request Tip
- You can select the card on file, key-in card, or swipe card
- A request will be sent to the card terminal while in POS:
- If 'Key In Card' is selected, a pop-up will appear prompting you to enter the card details
- After entering the card details and clicking 'Add,' another pop-up will appear, prompting you to click the 'Request Tip via Pin-Pad' button
- If 'Swipe Card' is selected, the 'Swipe, Dip, or Tap Card' pop-up will appear
- If 'Key In Card' is selected, a pop-up will appear prompting you to enter the card details
