Tipping via Credit Card Terminal (Key-In / Swipe / Tap Card)

When customers pay via credit card, you can let them select a tip from the terminal (Web) or the tablet (iOS/Android). In this article, we will walk through the steps to take to allow your clients to tip using the terminal. 

Things to know: 

  • You can specify the default tip option to be shown as preset % or $. Learn more here.
  • The ability to collect tips on tickets valuing $0 is controlled by a hidden setting that only the MyTime team can enable. To enable the hidden setting, please contact our Support Team at support@mytime.com.

Requesting Tips on a Customer-Facing Card Terminal 

  1. Navigate to the Schedule > Open the desired appointment
  2. Click "Create Ticket"               
  3. You will be directed to the POS > New Ticket page
  4. Expand the dropdown menu in the upper right-hand corner of the page > Select the desired terminal E0B8F3E5-AACB-4778-80D9-37F38D8563A7.jpeg
  5. Select the 'Take Payment' button
  6. You can select the card on file, key-in card, or swipe card button
  7. A request will be sent to the card terminal while in POS:
    • If 'Key In Card' is selected, a pop-up will appear prompting you to enter the card details          
      • After entering the card details and clicking 'Add,' another pop-up will appear, prompting you to click the 'Request Tip via Pin-Pad' button
    • If 'Swipe Card' is selected, the 'Swipe, Dip, or Tap Card' pop-up will appear  
  8. The client can either select a % or $ amount (depending on your business settings)2FB11B92-2602-43B7-B015-5D01FBDA233B.jpeg
    • If you choose % tipping, the client will choose between three preset % or the other options using 1-9 keys then press enter (green button)  
    • If you choose $ tipping - the client will choose between three preset $ or the other options using 1-9 keys then press enter (green button)

  12. Back in POS, you will be presented with the 'Split Tip' pop-up > Save
  13. Close the ticket

Requesting Tips on a Customer-Facing Card Terminal on a $0 Service

For businesses that have memberships or packages that cover services, you can request a tip on a service that is $0 (covered by membership or package). 

  1. Navigate to the Schedule > Open the desired appointment (in membership or package)
  2. Click "Create Ticket"     
  3. You will be directed to the POS > New Ticket page
  4. Expand the dropdown menu in the upper right-hand corner of the page > Select the desired terminal 307BA3FA-6058-4E00-AFA7-70578A491B37.jpeg
  5. Next, locate the "Closed Ticket" button with a downward-facing arrow. Click the downward-facing arrow and select Request Tip
  6. You can select the card on file, key-in card, or swipe card
  7. A request will be sent to the card terminal while in POS:
    • If 'Key In Card' is selected, a pop-up will appear prompting you to enter the card details            
      • After entering the card details and clicking 'Add,' another pop-up will appear, prompting you to click the 'Request Tip via Pin-Pad' button
    • If 'Swipe Card' is selected, the 'Swipe, Dip, or Tap Card' pop-up will appear

    • If you choose % tipping, the client will choose between three preset % or the other options using 1-9 keys then press enter (green button)  
    • If you choose $ tipping - the client will choose between three preset $ or the other options and others using 1-9 keys then press enter (green button)

  11. Back in POS, you will be presented with the 'Split Tip' pop-up > Save
  12. Close the ticket
