Backbar Fees

Backbar fees are charges incurred by a stylist or employee for using products at a salon or business. MyTime allows these fees to be deducted from staff compensation to cover the cost of supplies to perform specific services at your business.  Backbar fees can be set at the location-service level or employee-service level.

Things to know:

  • Backbar set at the employee-service level:
    • Backbar fee at the employee level is set via compensation by service model in employee profiles.
    • If the backbar is set at the employee level, it will be post-commission (deducted from the service commission value).
    • The backbar fee will appear in the Compensation reports under the Backbar Fees column.
  • Backbar set at the location-service level:
    • Backbar fees can be set for all or selected services.
    • This applies to all employees
    • Each service can only have one backbar fee per location.
    • You cannot configure both post-commission and pre-commission backbar fees for the same service in the same location.
    • Backbar fee at the location level is set via the services menu page. 
    • If the backbar fee is configured at the location level (via the services menu), it can be pre-commission (deducted from service revenue) or post-commission (deducted from the service commission value).
    • If pre-commission, the fee will appear in the Compensation reports under the Pre-commission Backbar Fees column.
    • If post-commission, the fee will appear in the Compensation reports under the Backbar Fees column.

Set Backbar Fee at Employee-Service Level

To set up backbar fees at the employee level:

  1. Navigate to Business Setup > Settings page
  2. Toggle the 'Set Backbar Fees by Service-Employee' setting to ON    settings_employee.png
  3. Save
  4. Navigate to Business Setup > Staff & Availability page
  5. Select a staff member’s profile  
  6. Scroll down to Compensation Reporting in the staff member's profile
  7. Select Straight Commission, then click set compensation by service  commmmmmm.png
  8. From here, you may set a flat ($) amount or a percentage (%) to deduct from staff compensation for each service performed. You may also set a different backbar fee for each service.  backcomm.png

Set Backbar Fee at Location-Service Level

To set up backbar fees at the location level:

  1. Navigate to Business Setup > Settings page
  2. Toggle the 'Set Backbar Fees by Service-Employee' setting to OFF  29129617-07dbe93d761f0d4347eb39c42451bd90.png
  3. Save
  4. Navigate to Business Setup > Services Menu page
  5. At the bottom of your page select the Set BackBar Fees button mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.png

  7.  From here, you may set a flat $ amount or % that will be deducted from service revenue. The fee can apply to different service categories, variations, and locations.

    • Fee Name - The name of the backbar fee
    • Type - Set whether the fee is a flat dollar value ($) or a percentage (%)
    • Amount - The value of the fee
    • Calculated Post Commission - Yes or No
    • Applicable Locations - Select whether the fee should apply to all locations or a specific location
    • Applies to - Select the service category and variations for which the fee is applicable 29129933-8ee303502ab2916824b45e8343107f7d.png
  8. Once you are satisfied with your changes, go ahead and save.
