Gift Card Expiration

You can sell gift cards with an unlimited validity period or with an expiry period online or in-store. In this article, we will discuss gift cards with an expiry period.

Things to know:

  • This feature is controlled by the "Enable gift card expiration" on the Business Setup > Settings PageOnce this feature is enabled, it cannot be disabled.
  • The ability to edit the expiration date on a gift card is controlled by the "Accessing Gift Cards" access control setting
  • For franchise businesses with global gift cards, the expiry period can only be configured and edited at the parent level since gift cards can be used across franchise locations
  • Gift card expiration dates will only apply to gift cards purchased after the setting is enabled
  • When activated, you can specify how long gift cards will be valid, though the expiration date can be edited from the client record for existing gift cards or the gift card modal when selling a gift card in POS
  • If no value is entered in the "Gift cards are valid for" field, gift cards will expire after 365 days by default
  • If a client attempts to redeem an expired gift card, an error message will be displayed online and in POS
