Test Wi-Fi strength

Please follow the steps below to test your WiFi strength. 


Please ensure that you are standing in the problem area. For example, if you are having issues with your card terminal at the front desk, make sure to run these tests within close proximity (2-3 feet) of the card terminal. 

 

iOS

  • On your iOS device click settings  
  • You will see a list in the settings window, and you should scroll down to find the Airport Utility App blobid1.jpg(if you don't see this app you can download it by clicking here or by opening your App Store blobid2.jpgand searching Airport Utility, by Apple Inc.). Pro-tip, you can also search for AirPort Utility using the search bar in the settings menu.
  • Swipe the slider for wifi scanning to ON (see screenshot below). 
  • Open the Airport Utility App > click Wi-Fi scan. Set the slider to continuous. Then click Scan (see screenshots below).
  • The result will show different networks in your range with dBm values and RSSI values. 
  • Very important- Keep your iOS running this scan within close proximity (2-3 feet) of the problem area (for example next to your card terminal), wait 5-10 seconds
  • Take a screenshot or note the results.

Mac

  • Try to join the Wi-Fi network you’re having problems with (if you’re not already connected).

  • Press and hold the Option key, then click the Wi-Fi status iconin the menu bar. 

  • The result will show different networks in your range with dBm values and RSSI values. 
  • Very important- Keep your Mac performing this scan within close proximity (2-3 feet) of the problem area (for example next to your card terminal), and wait 5-10 seconds. 
  • Take a screenshot or note the results.
